Stretch ceilings are currently very popular, thanks to which they dominate the classic suspended ceiling market. For the first time, the market has been enriched with a product that definitely beats the existing solutions. However, what materials for a stretch ceiling work best?
Compared to suspended ceilings, stretch ceilings consist of a wall-mounted profile and a special membrane that stretches between them. A commonly used membrane is PVC foil, to the advantages of which we can assign amazing equality and smoothness of the surface. Available for most customers, the material has a high scratch resistance.
The advantages of stretch ceilings
A wide range of colors and textures – they fit any style of interior, because they have a wide range of colors (over 200 shades) and various textures, also allow you to combine different materials.
They do not steal space – unlike plasterboard ceilings or DSP ceilings, stretch ceilings require very little room for installation.
They withstand up to 100 l/m2 of water – they do not let water, and thus save the room from leaks and the need for repair. This means that they help maintain good relations with neighbors in case of flooding 😉
Disassembly without distortion – if you need to install a network or perform other work, the film can always be removed and then reinstalled – without losing quality.
Lack of any defects and pipes peeking – they mask any unevenness, cracks and other ceiling defects, conceal network cables, additional layers of thermal and acoustic insulation.
The disadvantages of stretch ceilings
Deflection – this is a very common defect in large rooms. Therefore, if the surface of the ceiling is more than 20m2, some recommend choosing a different solution, or some clever reduction in the surface of the stretch ceiling.
Durability – unfortunately the strength of this type of ceilings for physical damage is very low. It does not take much to make a hole in it. When you really hit something on the ceiling, the whole investment turns out to be a fiasco. Therefore, watch out for high furniture and other cases where you can damage the ceiling.
Cleanliness – many people advise against such ceilings, eg. in the kitchen. Apparently, later washing it rom the grease, soot or fat is very difficult. You can not use too much force.
Lighting – when replacing the ceiling with a stretch ceiling, we have to prepare for the replacement of special luminaires. They have limited thermal insulation. Otherwise, yellow spots may appear around the ceiling lamp.
